I Am From - Enza C

I am from burry baby pictures with snotty red noses

From Winnie the pooh onesies and blankets

I am from June bug hunting in Tennessee and the same 10 episodes of Invader Zim on repeat

From cheaply made rainbow friendship necklaces between someone who doesn’t know my name and I will never see again

From playing and screaming outside until and sunsets and my older brother drags me in the house

I am from the songs in spanish songs (that I don’t understand)  that play on the early sunday mornings on my way to church

I’m from the early memories of ratty dogs and the sweet ice cream sandwich lady next door

From the kind and gentle 90 year old woman with bony fingers to drop expired candies in my pink sweaty palms, thinking nothing would ever bring me more joy

I am from the lovely woman down the hill with the yorkies and  with cookies that I can’t eat

I'm from the late, warm, summer nights, melted ice cream, windows all the way down, rolling down the freeway with my hair blowing in every direction

I am from the songs Butterfly's Repose by Zabawa, Mary Jane by  Rick James, and Can’t help falling in love with you by Elvis Presley

I was made from windy, breezy nights, soft and gently dampened japanese cherry blossoms, cold drizzles of rain, and sweet floral aromas

From the motto, “Instead of being hateful towards anything, learn to be grateful for everything”

I was created from cold harsh trama which blossomed into self love and appreciation

I am from love, light, happiness, and sunshine

Baby me! 🥰

Me now! 🦋

  1. First of all, I love the baby photo of you (literally queen). ANYWAYS... your poem is so heartwarming because not only the most crucial parts of your childhood shine through, but the included motto and the verses starting with "I was created" drives even more of a beautiful outlook on who you are and what built you. That motto is also so inspiring; I will remember to live by that a little more. I also love the floral theme you built the poem around because in my world, plants and flowers represent growth and I loved how I could connect to that.
