In many difficult situations, we find ourselves just hoping for better outcomes. Sometimes the thoughts of “hope” in our minds aren't enough to actually get us through hardships in our lives. While it may seem to be a positive and helpful coping mechanism through tough situations, hope does not offer anything but mere emotional support. Sadly, not every person has the luxury of hope either. Many people may face health issues, financial loss or distress, or even loss of a family member or friend. In many of these circumstances, hope isn’t a strategy they can confidently look into. In many distressful instances, it is important to remain optimistic, but also be aware that optimism can only make you reach so far.
While not all situations may seem as extreme or troubling as the ones listed before, it is still important to be aware of real applicable strategies to apply to multiple different aspects of your life. If we only “hope” for things to get better or our problems to solve themselves, nothing would change. We must act upon our problems and put effort into the change we wish and hope to see happen. Hope is a helpful way to get you motivated for changing a situation, but it is not an actual strategy to problem solving. In instances where you are faced with problems with possible solutions, it is important to put effort into those solutions, without just “hoping” the situation will eventually fade away itself.
As someone who has been through many varieties of situations, I have realized the importance and helpfulness of hope, but also the lack of problem-solving it has achieved for me. In no way is hope unimportant, just in the situational instances where hope may not be an option, it is crucial to recognize real and helpful possible solutions and efforts.

First off, I want to mention how much I admire the photo you chose because it illustrates "chance" and "change", connecting to your post. I agree that optimism can only get you so far because at the end of the day, you cannot truly change an outcome without action, so hope will not always do you justice. I love your perspective on hope existing as nonstrategic and this was a great piece!
ReplyDeleteI wrote about this topic as well, and I agree with much of what you said. I particularly enjoyed the line “Hope is a helpful way to get you motivated for changing a situation, but is not an actual strategy”. I agree with this sentiment that while hope is important, it isn’t a strategy in itself. Overall, I think your post was well-written and easy to understand. Great Job.
