I am From Poem; Word Count: 268 of 272
I am from Lavin and Sofia,
from Viver and Vivi.
I am from waking up at 5 am on Christmas morning,
from monthly trips to Dillon Beach and yelling across
the table on Thanksgiving.
I am from Bo Bo,
From My littlest Pet shops and lemonade stands.
I am from that game,
Staying up waiting for Little Caesars and
late nights waiting in the In N Out line.
I am from walking to the basketball courts on a hot summer day,
from jumping the fence into the kindergarten playground.
I am from walking to 7-11 to get slurpees and
from building forts throughout the upstairs.
I am from cooking old family recipes and
baking cakes, cookies, and poteca,
From playing football on thanksgiving with uncles and cousins.
I am from watching fireworks in downtown on 4th of July.
I am from the missing angel that goes on top of the christmas tree,
From the new tradition of the top hat on the tree when it was not found.
I am from purposely breaking ornaments with my brother,
From baking bloody gingerbread men,
and other christmas cookies.
I am from my mom who has done everything both possible
and impossible to provide happy, healthy lives for her children.
I am from my brother who taught me respect, discipline,
and to put yourself first when needed.
I am from you get what you get and you dont throw a fit,
From treat people how you want to be treated.
I am from success is not easy and never given,
And from respect should be given unless it is not received.
I can especially relate to your last stanza. My parents always used to tell me “treat others how you want to be treated” as well. It’s definitely a saying and a message that has stuck with me and influenced my life as well. Overall, it's a great poem.
