1 - Trevor O: Inside Out Voices

JOY - Ellen Degeneres

Ellen Degeneres seems like a person who is genuinely joyful most of the time and wants to spread kindness. She pushes for unity and helping one another, and she actively helps those in need. I feel like when I’m feeling happy or joyful, I also tend to want to help others and spread positivity to those around me, making Ellen a great choice to play joy in my head.

SADNESS - Jim Carrey

This was probably the most difficult emotion for me to cast as I couldn’t really think of many actors that I felt truly represented the emotion of sadness. While Jim Carrey is known for being a funny, comedic actor, I recently watched two more serious, sad films of his in Psychology. In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Carrey exhibits the emotion of sadness as he discovers that his ex-girlfriend erased him from her mind. His deep sadness over losing a close relationship with someone is something I can relate to. Furthermore, in The Truman Show, Carrey again exhibits sadness as he plays a man who finds out his entire life has been a lie. While not nearly the same, I can relate to the sadness his character felt when he found out he was being lied to. Overall, Carrey portrays sad, depressed characters very well and is the perfect candidate to play Sadness.

FEAR -  Phil from Modern Family

Phil from Modern Family often tries to put on a brave face, but he is scared of many, many things. He’s afraid of clowns, something that while I’m not terribly afraid of anymore, I used to be terrified of as a kid.

He is also easily scared in the Halloween episode. I too tend to be jumpy and easily scared in things like corn mazes or haunted houses. Furthermore, he often acts childish and immature, likely because he is afraid to “grow up” so to speak, and become an old man. Overall, he is a fearful man whose fears somewhat align with mine and I think he would make a great “Fear”.

ANGER - Adam Sandler

Despite being known as a comedian and a funny character in most of his movies, Sandler also has angry outbursts in his movies as well. His anger builds up and manifests in these short bursts where he yells angrily. This made him the perfect person to play anger in my opinion since I tend to remain calm most of the time and don’t get extremely angry,  but when I do get angry, I tend to have quick outbursts where I yell a lot.

DISGUST - Steve Harvey

Whenever I think of someone who gets disgusted easily, I think of Steve Harvey. I’ve seen numerous clips online of instances from Family Feud where a contestant gives a somewhat inappropriate or vulgar response and Harvey always reacts the same way, with a look of disgust. When I think of the feeling of disgust, I think of that face Steve Harvey makes, which is why I would cast him to play disgust.

  1. I love the characters you picked out to explain the voices in your head, especially Steve Harvey because is simply an icon and disgust is perfect for him. Your explanations also greatly depict why exactly you chose them to represent your voices and strongly connecting their tendencies to yours helps explain it further. Good job!

  2. I truly enjoyed reading about the charaters you choose, all of the characters fit perfectly into those emotions. I totally agree with Adam Sandler for Anger and found all of your reasoning so interesting. Great post! :)
