9-Vivi L-Object of The Week: Bicycle

 Object of the week: Bicycle

When reflecting back on our childhoods, some of us may think back to going camping or to a lake all the time. Others may think of traveling or hanging out with friends. When I reflect on my childhood, I remember many things, lemonade stands, beach trips, and riding scooters around my neighborhood playing with friends until 9 pm on summer nights.  However, one of the things I remember the most was biking.

Growing up, everyone biked. All of my friends would be on bikes, skateboards, and scooters all day long. I rode scooters with them and sat on skateboards, I swam in all the pools and went on all the swings. I played all the sports, football, basketball, kickball, you name it, I played it. I played with nerf guns, water balloons, and even had an imaginary friend. However, there was one thing I just could not do. Ride a bike.

My problem with biking was not attempts, it was that I simply did not know how. A few people have tried to teach me but I could never get the hang of it when I was younger. Since I couldn’t learn when I was younger, the possibility of me learning how to ride a bike now seems much lower. To better clarify, I know how to ride a bike and have attempted it, but when I get on a bike, I cannot go much further than a foot without falling off or losing my balance. I do hope that maybe one day I will be able to ride a bike (like a normal person).

  1. OMG! I was so shocked when you said you couldn't ride a bike. All I would do when I was little was ride my princess bike. Hearing how you attempted to ride a bike and failed shows me that you at least tried it and weren't afraid. It's okay I'm sure one day you'll eventually know how to ride a bike. Just like how you learned how to swim and drive you'll learn how to ride a bike!

  2. Very nice post, Vivi!! :) Bicycles were also such a big part of my childhood and reading your post brought up so much nostalgia! In all the neighborhoods I've lived in the neighborhood kids and I used to bike up and down the hills and around our houses :D. Hopefully you'll learn to ride a bike one day too!

  3. Riding a bike can definitely be hard if you didn’t start learning fairly early. I learned to ride a bike when I was 9, long after most of my friends. Don’t be discouraged though, if you put in enough effort, you can still learn.
