Childhood Mysteries

As a child you have a wild imagination and as you get older you have flashes of memories of stuff you used to do. However sometimes you can’t recall doing an activity that you somehow remember, but for sure can take a turn if it’s a rather questionable one.
Watching T.V. was entertaining back then because I was a sucker for those action cartoon shows which were at its peak back then.
However my parents were very careful in making sure I wasn’t exposed to any horror related back then because their rebellious ways when they were a child sure left them traumatized.
But it wouldn’t last too long because I would remember a memory of seeing something on T.V. of a girl getting dragged under the bed on a night vision camera.
But I just could not remember watching this willingly and certainly wasn’t through my parents because they wouldn’t allow this to happen. Luckily I wasn’t traumatized or nothing and years later found out the scene was from a movie called Quarantine(2008) a horror film.
However there was stil that question of how that movie was played when I was around.
I came across an idea of how one day my grandpa was watching Eternals in front of my sister who’s six and it showed those creepy monsters.
Yes, it was just a marvel movie but my sister couldn’t get through the trailer for the new Ghostbusters movie so Eternals was definitely out of the picture.
Then I made the connection to somehow witnessing a scene from a horror movie and seeing my grandpa blatantly watching Eternals with my sister, So if you remember a creepy scene from a movie with no recall how, question your grandparents first.
My dad used to trick my sister and I into watching horror movies because he found it amusing and would laugh his tail off when we quickly found out it was terrifying. Although I remember being scared, it is one of my core memories. I like how you shared personal stories tied into the thrill of horror and the ending where you called out your grandparents really tied it all together.
ReplyDeleteGreat story, and I can totally relate to that feeling of remembering doing/seeing something but not remembering where or when I experienced it. I remember, when I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time after school at my grandparents’ house when my mom worked, and my grandpa would always watch true crime shows that scared me. Sometimes grandparents are just so oblivious.
