10 - Kayla R. - High School Graduation

High school Graduation

Nearly every student in high school, ranging from freshmen to seniors, yearns for the day they graduate and are finally free from what they were bound to for nearly twelve years. For some, graduation is the symbol of completion, that they finally made it to the end of their hard work for the past twelve, chaotic years. For others, it’s an escape, a breath of fresh air to finally be into the real world, without anything keeping them in their hometowns.

Regardless of what every individual senior may believe about their graduation, it is undeniably a day of great accomplishment. It is physical proof that a student was able to make it through twelve years of mostly routine school days that seemed to get harder as time went by.

To me, graduation allows me an escape. I am no longer bound to my high school, and I finally get to become someone outside of the group of people I was with nearly every day.

High school has so far been definitely a roller coaster. Not all feel this way, but I know that ever since I was in middle school, I was ready and prepared to graduate high school.

In my mind, graduating high school automatically opens the doors of countless opportunities that weren’t quite in reach to me when I was still a high school student. I will no longer have an excuse to stay where I grew up, and I could finally find who I truly am, outside of being surrounded by family and my childhood at all times.

The high school experience is unforgettable, but some of us are more prepared for that experience to be over than others. It will most definitely be a monumental moment for me, like it is for all, and will also signify the hard work I put in just to get through high school. Not only will it be monumental, but it will bring me a variety of new opportunities and an excuse to finally leave somewhere that I’ve felt stuck at all of my life.

  1. Great blog post Kayla! I like how you brought up not everyone will feel the way you feel about graduation because to me it's scary to think about but also exciting cause you're finally free from waking up early and coming back from school only to do so much homework. I agree that it will open up many new opportunities but it will also come with the expense of many new challenges as well.
