8 - Lorenzo M. - Follow Your Passion to Escape a Scandal

Follow Your Passion to Escape a Scandal

Word Count: 291

Either in Preschool or Kindergarten, at the end of the day we were allowed to participate in activities till our parents arrived.  Two popular activities that the teacher’s would setup were an art station as well as a computer station with those big old bulky computers for us to play on.

However since the computers dominated all the other activities, the teacher put us on a list and would read off names and ask us the question, “Computer or no computer” and would go on till all the computers were rightfully filled.

There always seemed to be a pattern as I would always be picked on a specific day, and back then I was huge on drawing so I declined the offer multiple times so whoever was underneath my name always guaranteed a spot.

One day I was minding my own business just in the zone drawing till I get a tap on me shoulder and it was some other teacher next door, she explains to me something happened to the computer, don’t remember what exactly but basically

The incident occured on the day it was my turn on the computer.

I told her I wasn’t on the computer but she didn’t believe me, basically downplaying my intelligence, frountaly my teacher vouched for me and backed me up saying I wasn’t on the computer so the lady moved on to her next victim and didn’t even apologize.

But the school wasn’t broken and was able to replace the computer shortly after or fix it.  So whenever someone says “Follow your passion”, don’t take that just for a career job as it can very much save you out of unnecessary situations or help you get out of one if you play the plan out right.

  1. I love the different perspective you gave this quote, "follow your passion". You hadn't made it career based, but much more life applicable. I'm sorry that this teacher mistreated you this way, but good for you for sticking up for yourself and not caving under that pressure!
