Blog #4 - Enza C - Girl.... put the phone away

Blog #4 - Are there times when you think using your phone while you’re with other people is rude?

I believe that it is extremely rude to use your phone while you’re out with other people. It is inconsiderate and self-centered to be talking on a phone while around others, to be polite you should excuse yourself and remove yourself from the event, however, don't whip out your phone and disconnect yourself from the event. In doing so it also makes your friends believe that you don't want to be there in the first place.

Being on your phone while out majorly disrupts our actual, present moments and makes you miss out on important in-person relationships. It takes away your focus and makes you miss memories and important moments.

Being on your phone in public can also actually affect your mental health and really take a toll on it. People tend to attach themselves to their phones in unhealthy ways and become co-dependent on them causing increases in stress and depression.

In recent years there have been major increases in addiction to the internet. Internet addiction has similar brain correlates to other forms of addiction such as heroin and other recreational drugs. The impact of this behavior is very worrisome and troubling for children whose brain and social skills are still developing. Children may be out in public and see an adult on their phone, making them believe that it is okay to also be on electronics while in public thus weakening their social skills and making them not know how to properly act while out with other people.
