I believe that handwritten cards still have significant value in this digital age. I believe that handwritten cards are more impactful and more thoughtful than a digital card.
Sadly, over the years, a simple handwritten letter has been removed from an everyday practice to a unique way to communicate. Over the years instant messaging, texting, and email have become the new form of communication. Sending a card online is so easy and can be done in a matter of seconds. Many have lost sight of the value of a handwritten message and often just choose the easiest way out and send them a worthless digital card.
A simple handwritten letter is an easy and affordable gift we can give someone else. All you have to do is take a few moments to write a message no matter how long or short and it's a gift of your time, attention, and thought. When we receive a letter, we take the time to read them, and in many cases re-read them. These memories should be cherished, shared, and not forgotten. There are memories of events long forgotten, experiences shared and brought back to life through the letter from a friend. A letter can also show someone you care about them. People would be touched that you took time out of your day, carefully thought about what you were to say, and spent time writing to them and customizing the card towards the event or even their personality. It shows that you care about that person and bring attention to the fact that you took the time and effort to write, stamp, and mail a letter. It’s easy to dismiss the idea that a piece of writing could have such an importance but writing in and of itself is a creative act. It is putting together a string of words to convey a message or to bring to life an idea or shared memory. Hand writing a letter is a deliberate act of exposure, a form of vulnerability, because handwriting opens a window on the soul in a way that cyber communication can never do.
I love and use email, texting, and instant messaging; It’s quick and easy and gets the job done and gets a message delivered in a fast manner. However, this type of communication has its time and place. Those forms of communication are more used everyday and it's way more special it’s you actually take time to write the card yourself.
