8- Trevor O: Don't Give Up

Every day, we are all confronted with hardships and challenges. Oftentimes, when faced with a challenge, we will try our very best to overcome it but will end up failing anyway. However, we must not let temporary failures or setbacks distract and demoralize us. We must rise and confront the challenge again, head-on, until we succeed.

It is easy to lose hope and feel like overcoming a particular challenge is impossible after you experience failure. However, even if you have “fought the battle” and lost, you still walk away with valuable knowledge of what the “battle” is like and can develop strategies to win it in the future. Some “battles”, especially ones unlike anything you’ve ever faced before, can be difficult to win at first. But with enough effort, you will eventually prevail.

For myself in particular, when I hear this quote, I think about my experience taking the PSAT. The first time I took the PSAT, I went into the test having not studied at all and with the assumption that I would be able to score well anyways. While I didn’t end up scoring terribly, I still was unhappy with my results. Rather than giving up, I decided to give it one more shot when the opportunity came around again this year. This time, I knew what the metaphorical “battle” would be like and knew what to expect. As a result, I was able to better prepare by studying in the week leading up to the test. Come test day, I felt more confident and was able to successfully “win the battle” and obtain a much better score on the PSAT.

  1. This post was motivational. Your post really emphasized having the willpower to overcome hardships. I have had my own struggles like classwork and grades but I know that if I continue I can overcome these challenges.
