Enza C - #14 - Does size matter?

Class size can be an very important factor in ones education. There are many advantages and disadvantages in having a class size that is too big and having a class that is too small.

Having a moderate class size allows the teacher to work very closely with their students. It can help them ensure that the students know what they are doing and can allow the teacher to be able to check up on the students more often. A normal class size introduces more opportunities for one-on-one contact and small-group instruction. An average class size can increase the bond between a teacher and student and allow them both to become familiar and friendly towards each other. Thus making the sudents excited to come to class and eager to learn from the teacher.

Having a larger class size can reduce the number of interations between a student and teacher and make the time of learning a subject go by too quickly for some students. However, being in a bigger class can be benefital  to certain  students that work well with fast paced classes and topics. It can allow some students to move on more quickly to the next topic and allow more time to learn new, greater subjects.

Having an class size that is very small could mean less work for the teacher to do and less distraction for students to encounter. However having less socialization between peers could make the students become less interested in the class and make them feel bored and isolated from their peers.

An appropriate class size should be about 25-30 students per class depending on the subject and the teacher. This number guarantes that the students get enough attention and the load of work won't be too much for the teachers to handle.

  1. I also believe that class size is a very important factor in ones education. Like you said the bigger the classroom the bigger the problem. With less kids in a class its less noisy and students can focus better. It's an overall better environment for them because they are also not too crowded.

  2. I think you did a great job weighing the pros and cons of different class sizes. Your blog was well organized which made the logic easy to follow. I agree with you that 20-30 students per class is preferable because it allows for enough student-teacher time and gives students enough classmates to socialize with.
