I Almost Died with my Best Friend..
Jenna and I were inseparable at a young age, but we had sadly drifted once high school hit and didn’t talk to one another for nearly three years. After a blog post she had written and shared with me, we reconnected and had lunch together. After the initial reconnection, we instantly clicked like before and became best friends once again.
We had planned to hangout again this past weekend, but we had officially gotten tired of hanging out in mundane Vacaville. We decided to hangout in downtown Davis, somewhere we hadn’t visited very often. We wanted a different environment, and we felt that Davis would be the perfect spot!
Jenna has a small fear of the freeway, so we agreed that I would drive since I have a bit more confidence driving that far of a distance on the freeway. After stopping in Dixon for some Dutch Bros, we were on our way to Downtown Davis for lunch.
As we continued to drive for a couple of minutes, the freeway split into more lanes, changing from three to four lanes. With this change, a car slightly ahead of me to my left attempted to get into my lane, ignoring her shoulder, nearly crashing into me! With panic, I swerved a little too aggressively to the right. Since we were at such high speeds on the freeway, I started to lose control of the car, causing my car to swerve from left to right within the farthest right lane and shoulder. Throughout this, Jenna is screaming my name, while I am frantically yelling “OH MY GOD” trying to regain control.
When I finally regain control, Jenna advises me to take the nearest exit so we can calm down. Once I took the exit and parked, I turned to Jenna to apologize, and we both just started crying hysterical laughter. We were both so freaked out, but the fact that we had experienced it together, made it a little less scary.
Since we had been young, Jenna and I were always there to provide comfort for one another. She was always there for me, as I was for her too. In this moment, we realized the scariness and the danger of what we had just experienced, but neither of us would have wanted to experience anything like it with anyone else.
After we wiped our tears, I of course apologized to her and reassured her that I was not a terrible driver and it was not my fault. She of course understood, and we mutually shared the comfort we felt for experiencing such a scare together. The situation reminded Jenna and I of the comfort we had once provided for each other that had never left. While of course, this is not the situation I may have wanted to experience for this reminder, she and I both now find ourselves laughing when we think of it, making us that much more thankful for one another.

The drive in the direction toward Sac is always so sketchy and I am so glad you survived. Your blog was so descriptive and I could picture the moment and I loved how you included the importance of friendship all throughout.
